Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2013
For visitors
Bernie Ecclestone, leader of Formula 1 mentioned on the Monte Carlo Grand Prix 1983 to his friend Tamás Rohonyi, who is being of Hungarian origin, that one event of the championship should be held behind the “iron curtain”. In the summer of 1983 a telex arrived to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicating Mr. Ecclestone’s suggestion.

The first big step was followed by smaller ones in the next two and a half years. The long period of preparation and organization was fruitful, as on September 10th 1985 in London the contract for the first five years of the Hungarian Grand Prix was signed.

Small steps were followed by apace work and after eight months the circuit, with one of the most beautiful locations of the Championship, was completed and the first race was held on August 10th 1986.

The idea of Bernie Ecclestone to take after 36 years of Formula One a race into a socialist country seemed to be insanity. The past 24 years although justified his decision as Hungaroring is kept its place amongst the most prestigious race locations all over the world.

1,7 million spectators watched the 2006 Formula One Word Championship on site and six hundred million people followed the races on television. In most peoples opinion it is the best organized series in the world deploying high-tech.

Numerous countries have recognized the huge economical possibilities of the race and the fact that this is the most effective way to gain international reputation and recognition. At this moment numerous race tracks, ready to host an event, are waiting to be invited into this exclusive society while several race tracks are still being built.

Applications are still exaggerated despite the fact that organization necessitates a great amount of sacrifices from the countries hosting the event and organizers have to work on high standard without faults as mistakes may endanger further event organization. Hungaroring belongs to this worldwide envied and acknowledged circle since August 10th 1986. The internationally acknowledged achievement has been awarded by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) in 2002 when Hungaroring received the challenge-cup for the best organized race.

Of course there needs to be a team behind all this success, who, along with its partners could meet all the highly set requirements determined year by year. This company is Hungaroring Sport Plc which holds the organization rights for the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix until 2016.

The topmost assignment for the company is the organization of the Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix perfectly while striking of the optimized and effective utilization of the motorsport facility during the year. The aim is that Hungaroring should become both nationwide as well as in the region the citadel of motorsport. By utilizing the aptitude of the facility it established the technical driving, traffic safety and motorsport centre, which due to cooperation with a number of partners welcomes its guest on more than 200 days a year.
